Alere joins new 'Partners in Health' initiative

Point of care specialist Alere participated in the ‘Partners in Health’ initiative launched at the Houses of Parliament on 12th July. Co-ordinated by the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (PCCS), it brings together many of the different groups committed to improving the delivery of healthcare services and reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease.

Life science companies, industry associations, the NHS and charities attended the event, which was hosted by Margot James, MP for Stourbridge; “Partners in Health brings the UK healthcare environment to the House of Commons allowing new ministers to become better acquainted with the many active groups in the field and with the overall aim of improving the delivery of healthcare services through Joint Working Initiatives. By working together we can take great strides forward in improving health services and reducing inequalities”.

Professor Neil Poulter, Director of the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit at Imperial College London launched a new study designed to monitor the health of MP’s during their period in office. All MP’s were invited to undergo an on-the-spot health check, which included a lipid profile using the Alere LDX analyser, and 30 had their initial screen on the day.

The meeting also coincided with the launch of the new White Paper ‘Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS’ which outlines plans to place decision-making and funding with GP’s. Alere provides a range of rapid blood tests that have been specifically developed for the primary care environment and the company will be working with GP consortia to develop new care pathways to improve outcomes and efficiency.
