Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus is now endemic in hospitals worldwide.
Healthcare Associated MRSA bacteraemia is associated with increased morbidity, mortality and costs the industry billions of dollars each year.
It is vitally important, both for the patient and for the hospital that these infections are diagnosed and appropriately treated in a timely manner.
Following a positive blood culture, traditional culture and susceptibility testing methods take up to 48 hours for a result.
Alere is proud to announce that we will be launching the BinaxNOW® PBP2a Test, a qualitative in vitro immunochromatographic assay for the rapid detection of penicillin-binding protein 2a (PBP2a) in blood cultures positive for S. aureus. A positive result indicates the presence of a resistant strain - MRSA.
This rapid test gives the result in just 30 minutes from blood culture.
