So convincing is the data supporting the financial benefits of using D-dimer testing in General Practice to exclude DVT that we are making an unprecedented offer to the NHS to provide the test kits for free in return for a share of the savings made.

More than 50% of suspected DVT cases referred to hospital for investigation are later found to be negative. The 20 PCTs already using the test have reduced referrals by one third with significant financial and patient care benefits. At a recent meeting, East of England SHA estimated that using D-dimer in primary care would save the Authority £1 million per annum.
