INTRODUCTION

Chlamydia trachomatis is one of the most recurring infections among the sexually active adolescents and adults in Europe. In the majority of the cases the infection is asymptomatic, but when untreated can lead to permanent sequels. Because of the burden that Chlamydia infections are putting on the public health systems, many European countries, such as the UK and the Netherlands, have adopted largescale screening programs. In order to encourage participation in the screening program, non invasive sampling is gaining popularity. As a consequence urine samples are now largely favoured for the diagnosis of Chlamydia trachomatis. In view of submission for CE labelling, Nanogen has supported a pilot study to verify the performance of the CHLAMYDIA tr. Q-PCR Alert Kit on urine samples processed by automatic extraction.
